Following a recent sustainability audit, CROSSROADS Maldives — the first and only multi-island integrated leisure destination in the Indian Ocean — announced that it has achieved Green Globe™ Certification for the second year running. This achievement includes the lifestyle hub, The Marina@CROSSROADS, and two world-class resorts, the Hard Rock Hotel Maldives and SAii Lagoon Maldives, Curio Collection by Hilton.
As the world’s most prestigious standard for the travel and hospitality sector, the Green Globe™ standards have been included into CROSSROADS Maldives’ environmental best practices. With the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in December 2023, the destination has been adhering to its sustainability objectives in the direction of its guiding principle, “Building Big, Protecting Small.”
The Maldives government, non-governmental organizations, and their highly skilled in-house marine biologists collaborate closely to monitor, preserve, and safeguard the reef system from natural calamities. The resorts at CROSSROADS incorporate sustainable management and environmental principles into all aspects of business, from day-to-day operations to year planning. They have two educational centers that provide guests with comprehensive information about the ecology and culture of the Maldives: the Maldives Discovery Center and the Marine Discovery Center. Since they introduce visitors to novel experiences, the interactive facilities have become increasingly popular.
The destination’s three top-notch resorts are dedicated to improving the strategies and options for environmental sustainability as Green Globe Members. A wet bag was recently developed by Hard Rock Hotel Maldives. The wet bags are offered for guests to keep their wet garments and are conveniently carried about the island. They are made from fabrics from damaged umbrellas. In addition to making significant investments in eco-friendly initiatives like an organic garden and interactive experiences for visitors, SAii Lagoon Maldives is also building its first turtle rehabilitation facility.
