The World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) organized Earth Hour on 23rd March 2024, an ongoing global effort to fight climate change, and The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort, which is located in the stunning Baa Atoll, the first UNESCO Biosphere Reserve site in the Maldives, took part.
In keeping with its steadfast dedication to environmental sustainability, The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort reduced non-essential lights in public areas on 23rd March from 8:30 to 9:30 PM. Visitors were invited to participate in this heartfelt act by shutting down the lights in their respective accommodations. At this time, everyone was welcome to attend an enthralling acoustic show at Sunset Beach, where they also enjoyed specially made cocktails for this special occasion, all under the glow of candles.
Apart from honoring Earth Hour, the resort organized a tree-planting activity between 10:30 and 11:30 AM, whereby both guests and associates joined forces to plant trees in certain regions encircling the property. This program improved the Baa Atoll’s natural beauty and helped offset carbon emissions, which would benefit the area’s environment going forward.
With the creation of a Sustainability Committee, The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to protecting the unspoiled natural beauty of the Maldives even after Earth Hour. This group is in charge of spearheading programs including water conservation, organic waste repurposing, and the use of renewable energy sources, all of which contribute to the overall goal of sustainability being a fundamental part of resort operations and culture.
