RuPay, an Indian card payment network, has debuted in the Maldives. During President Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to India, a ceremony in New Delhi marked the virtual introduction of RuPay to the Maldives. In a joint statement with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Muizzu stated that RuPay’s introduction to the Maldives will tremendously benefit the people of both nations.
The cards are now accepted at Bank of Maldives POS terminals and ATMs. More than 300 million people utilize RuPay, a service provided by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which was the country’s first international card payment network.
BML’s Director of Retail, Business and SME Banking Moosa Nimal said, “We are delighted to partner with National Payment Corporation of India to facilitate the acceptance of RuPay cards in the Maldives. RuPay has made a significant impact on the retail payment systems in India and with its acceptance at Bank of Maldives, the widest banking network in the country, payments for RuPay users have now become easier than ever.”
Bank of Maldives is dedicated to serving people, businesses, and communities throughout the Maldives. With a statewide network of 39 branches spread across all 20 atolls, 88 Self Service Banking Centers, 143 ATMs, over 7000 merchants, cash agent service, and a full range of Digital Banking services, the bank has achieved this goal.
