22 representatives from 14 various corporations in the Maldivian tourism sector worked together to organize the exciting event known as “Visit Maldives Week,” which was organized by the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives). The goal of the week-long event was to introduce the Russian market to the Sunny Side of Life’s varied vacation options in three of Russia’s largest cities.
The first of several international roadshows that will take place in both major and emerging tourism markets throughout the year is Russia’s “Visit Maldives Week.” Three cities hosted the Russian Market roadshows: St. Petersburg on 3rd February, Moscow on 5th February and Tyumen on 7th February. The purpose of the event was to give stakeholders in the Maldives’ tourism sector a forum to forge new alliances and reinforce current ones while disseminating the most recent travel information about the Maldives.
Interactive photo zones showcasing the splendor of the Maldives’ islands and properties were included in this event to improve the guest experience. In addition, a media conference was scheduled for Moscow to give press representatives and travel trade media customized information. To keep people interested and give them a chance to win prizes, a “Maldives Passport” with interactive questions was held. Along with showcasing the Maldives as a top vacation destination, the roadshows included fruitful B2B meetings, networking events, and destination workshops. Participants in the St. Petersburg event had the opportunity to win a vacation prize provided by Canareef Resort Maldives. A two-night, full-board stay with return transportation for two persons is included in the prize.
A webinar series, campaigns with airlines and tour operators, public relations initiatives, media familiarization tours, and campaigns with destination management companies are just a few of the forthcoming initiatives the Visit Maldives team has planned to target the Russian market.
Over the years, the number of Russian tourists visiting the Maldives has steadily increased. With 20,902 arrivals in January, Russia, which was the second-largest source market in 2024, is now the second-largest source market for the Maldives this year.
