With the formal start of the much awaited Visit Dharavandhoo Year 2025, an exciting year devoted to promoting Dharavandhoo Island’s rich cultural legacy, scenic beauty, and distinctive local experiences has begun. This campaign, which gives visitors an opportunity to see the Maldives outside of its opulent resorts, is a part of a larger initiative to increase local island tourism.
The inaugural event was a lively celebration of local talent and culture that took place on the island on 30th October 2024. Numerous student performances, including traditional dance and song, as well as cultural acts by the island’s youth, adorned the event. These dynamic presentations, which reflected the vitality and enthusiasm of the Dharavandhoo community, set the tone for the future year.
Dharavandhoo Island, which is part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Baa Atoll, provides a unique experience for adventurers, environment lovers, and cultural aficionados. The island offers a doorway to a genuine native experience, from world-class snorkeling at Hanifaru Bay, which is famous for manta rays and whale sharks, to genuine Maldivian hospitality and culture.
Workshops and seminars, an underwater coral park with Instagram-worthy locations, a Futsal Fiesta, the Manta Festival, a conservation project that will lay the groundwork for a Manta Center, cultural festivals, eco-tourism events, and other partnerships with nearby companies to promote sustainable tourism practices are all part of the year-long campaign.
In addition to taking part in immersive activities like island hopping, traditional music performances, and Maldivian cookery workshops, visitors will be encouraged to interact with the locals and learn about marine life through guided excursions.
Sameeh Ali, the president of the Dharavandhoo Council, spoke during the launch event, stating, “Visit Dharavandhoo Year 2025 is a celebration of our island’s unique culture and biodiversity, combined with a focus on responsible tourism. We believe this campaign will attract travelers looking for unique experiences, supporting our local economy, and environment, laying a foundation for years to come.”
Because of Dharavandhoo Island’s dedication to sustainability and locally led tourism, tourists may take in the Maldives’ natural beauty while also helping to preserve it. Additional information will be disseminated through official channels as the campaign progresses, asking both domestic and foreign visitors to participate in this unique year.
