More than 500,000 tourists have visited the Maldives, with 513,377 visitors having journeyed to the island country as of March 17th, indicating a strong and ongoing rebound in the tourism industry. The Maldives’ main source market is now China, with 60,699 tourists making up 11.8% of all arrivals. Russia has provided 52,385 tourists, accounting for 10.2% of the market, following closely behind. With 49,480 arrivals (9.6%), Italy continues to be a major player, followed by the UK with 46,849 (9.1%).
Germany (35,761), India (31,028), France (20,906), the United States (16,960), Poland (12,570), and Switzerland (11,787) are other major contributors to the amount of tourist arrivals in Maldives. At the moment, visitors to the Maldives stay for an average of 7.8 days. These statistics highlight the Maldives’ continued popularity as a top vacation spot by showing a notable rise in visitors over the same time in prior years. In the first quarter of 2023, 523,928 tourists came to the Maldives, an exceptional 8.5% increase over 482,978 during the same period in 2019. The occupancy rate for all tourist establishments combined increased to 73.9% in the first quarter of 2018 from 69.9% in the same period the previous year. Additionally, the total number of beds available increased by 11% year over year to 40,893 in the first quarter of 2018.
