The largest seaplane operator in the world, Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA), has won two major awards at the 31st Annual World Travel Awards 2024, further solidifying its position as a worldwide aviation pioneer. TMA was recognized as the World’s Leading Seaplane Operator 2024 and the Indian Ocean’s Leading Seaplane Operator 2024 at this year’s awards ceremony, which took place in Portugal on 24th November 2024. This victory marks an exceptional 10-year run in the regional category.
With its connectivity ease and customized transfer options, Trans Maldivian Airways has revolutionized air travel in the Maldives since its founding in 1993. TMA now operates a fleet of 65 DHC-6 Twin Otters, including two VIP-configured aircraft and 13 resort-branded aircraft. With more than 400 daily flights, TMA links more than 80 upscale resorts spread across 16 atolls. The Maldives’ status as the World’s Leading Destination has been largely bolstered by this operational excellence, solidifying TMA’s position as a key player in the country’s booming travel sector.
Along with the World Travel Awards victories, TMA’s 2024 accomplishments included winning the title of Leading Tourist Transport Provider (Air) at the South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) and winning the Seven Stars Luxury Hospitality and Lifestyle Awards for Best Luxury Seaplane Lounge for Infinity by Trans Maldivian Airways.
The designation of TMA’s Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility as a DHC-Endorsed Service Center was another significant event in 2024. TMA, the first airline in South Asia to get this honor, keeps raising the bar for aviation operational excellence.
TMA keeps investing in growing its fleet and services as the Maldives prepares for record-breaking tourism growth. TMA is ideally positioned to satisfy the ever-changing needs of the industry while keeping its emphasis on providing individualized guest experiences, as seen by the recent introduction of two new resort-branded aircraft.
