In its first year of business, SO/ Maldives is pleased to report that it has earned the esteemed Green Globe certification. Under the direction of Ennismore’s ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) purpose, the resort combines eco-conscious innovation with its renowned fashion-forward brand while maintaining an uncompromising commitment to sustainable practices. By positively influencing the environment, its employees, and local communities, SO/ Maldives is reinventing luxury hospitality.
SO/ Maldives has been recognized by the Green Globe accreditation for its outstanding efforts to lessen its impact on the environment and promote sustainable business practices. The resort’s sustainability path is based on strategic approaches to reduce waste, lessen its carbon footprint, and assist the local ecosystem – all while preserving its standing as a leader in the luxury market.
Initiatives to Reduce the Carbon Footprint:
- Solar Power: By installing solar panels across the resort’s restaurants, back-of-house spaces, beach villas, and water villas, up to 45% of its energy is produced, greatly lowering its dependency on non-renewable resources.
- Intelligent Energy Management: To ensure that there is as little energy waste as possible, the resort uses GRMS software to monitor and adjust lighting, air conditioning, and villa occupancy.
Creative Trash Management:
- Garbage Segregation: The resort’s trash management program makes sure that commodities such as metal, plastic, and organic garbage are kept apart.
- Plastic Upcycling: Through creative upcycling techniques, the resort’s collected plastic trash is converted into useful materials in partnership with Parley. Adidas uses this trash to make clothing, accessories, and shoes.
- Metal Recycling: SO/ Maldives guarantees the appropriate disposal and recycling of metal trash through its partnership with Secure Maldives.
Eco-Friendly Product Selections:
- Sustainable Bathroom Amenities: Codage, the company that supplies the resort’s upscale bathroom products, uses vegan recipes manufactured with components that are produced sustainably and comes in recyclable packaging.
- Green In-Room Amenities: Created from bamboo, FSC-certified wood, and other environmentally friendly materials. SO/ Maldives has teamed up with Palatino, a leader in sustainable products, to provide 100% biodegradable room amenities. The packaging for the toothpaste and room slippers is also created from renewable materials.
Commitment to Food Sustainability:
- Reduction of Food Waste: SO/ Maldives liquefies food waste for appropriate disposal using a cutting-edge food digester. To ensure there is as little waste as possible, leftover food is also composted using special equipment.
- Orbisk Technology: By evaluating consumption and optimizing usage, SO/Maldives lowers food waste through the use of Orbisk food waste management systems.
- Locally Sourced Ingredients: To assist the local economy and lessen the carbon imprint of imported items, the resort’s restaurants and bars use ingredients from local Maldivian vendors for everything from seafood to fruits and vegetables.
- Buffet-Free Approach: To reduce food waste, the resort chooses carefully planned à la carte meals over extensive buffets.
In keeping with its stylish persona, SO/ Maldives integrates eco-friendly design and art into its villas. The distinctive components in each home were created by Thai artist Ploenchan Vinyaratn using recycled materials like extra yarn. In addition to being aesthetically pleasing, these eye-catching ceiling elements and ornamental wall pieces demonstrate the resort’s dedication to sustainability.
The resort’s commitment to promoting local talent while keeping a stylish edge is further demonstrated by its collaboration with luxury fashion brand RIFFATH for the unique Flying Dress Edits. In addition to interacting with the community and improving the visitor experience, our partnership produces a sustainable fashion statement.
SO/ Maldives has demonstrated its dedication to sustainability by doing away with single-use plastics across the resort. By combining high fashion, innovative design, and a strong dedication to the environment, SO/ Maldives continues to set the bar for sustainable luxury and provides visitors with an experience they won’t soon forget.
