According to figures given by the Ministry of Tourism, 667,730 tourists have visited the Maldives so far in Q1 2025, representing a 5.8% increase over the same period the previous year, with the goal stated by the government to bring in 2.5 million visitors within 2025. By the end of March, 632,418 tourists had come, according to the government, with 35,312 arriving in the first five days of April. When comparing Q1 2025 to Q1 2024, the April arrivals represent a 31.5% rise.
According to the ministry, there are currently about 7,000 tourists arriving each day.
In 2025, the following nations will send the most tourists to the Maldives:
- China: 76,674 tourists (11.5% of total arrivals)
- United Kingdom: 70,561 tourists (10.6% of total arrivals)
- Russia: 70,538 tourists (10.6% of total arrivals)
- Italy: 59,978 tourists (9% of total arrivals)
- Germany: 47,470 tourists (7% of total arrivals)
The United States, Switzerland, France, India, and Poland are further important source markets.
During this time, travellers’ preferred lodging options were as follows:
- Resort stays: 69%
- Guesthouse stays: 25%
The Maldives saw a record-breaking 2,046,615 visitors in 2024. This represents a 9.1% increase over the 1.87 million arrivals that were documented in 2023, with steady increases expected within 2025 as well.
