To combat single-use plastic, the Muni Foundation and Fushifaru Maldives organised “Plastic Aa Nulaa” event, the purpose of which is to unite people, groups, and communities in support of the goals of eradicating single-use plastic, safeguarding the environment, and encouraging a more sustainable way of life. The event took place at Central Park, Hulhumale on April 29, 2024, in response to the serious worldwide issue of plastic waste.
‘Plastic Aa Nulaa’ (‘No to Plastic’ in the Maldivian language, Dhivehi) is a campaign that aims to create a cleaner, greener future. This event, which was organised by the Muni Foundation and Fushifaru Maldives with assistance from the government and business sponsors, is expected to be a driving force behind change. A number of green efforts have been put into place by Fushifaru, such as a project to propagate coral, a ban on single-use plastic bags, tree planting, and a chef’s garden to encourage sustainable culinary methods. The resort has received praise for its initiatives to help the neighbourhood, protect marine life, and lessen its carbon footprint.
Fushifaru Maldives and the renowned non-profit Muni Foundation, which is committed to environmental preservation, started Plastic Aa Nulaa. The Muni Foundation has been actively involved in a number of projects targeted at protecting natural ecosystems and lessening environmental damage with the goal of building a more sustainable future for all.
One of the top Maldivian telecommunications companies, Ooredoo, has announced themselves as Plastic Aa Nulaa’s gold sponsor. Ooredoo has led the way in programs that support environmental sustainability because of its dedication to corporate social responsibility. By supporting this cause, the bronze sponsors, La Linker and Transmaldivian Airways (TMA), have also shown their dedication to environmental care and community involvement. Additionally, Fushifaru Maldives would like to express their gratitude to Island Chief, the setup sponsor, and HDC and Parley, the venue sponsors, for their vital efforts.
The event included a wide range of projects and activities aimed at promoting the use of eco-friendly alternatives and increasing public awareness of the harmful impacts of single-use plastics on the environment.
Plastic Aa Nulaa hosted eminent speakers from a range of disciplines:
