Maldives tourism numbers are witnessing a notable upsurge, with over 200,000 visitors from China accounting for 15% of all arrivals this year. The reintroduction of direct flights from China, notably those operated by Xiamen Airlines, Chongqing Airlines, and China Eastern, has also contributed to this rise by increasing accessibility for Chinese visitors to visit the Maldives.
The nation is making steady progress toward its ambitious target of welcoming 2 million tourists by December 2024, having received 1.3 million+ tourists to date. Over the next few months, an additional 700,000 tourists are anticipated in order to fulfill this aim.
The Ministry of Tourism has released its most recent report, and it shows that, with 149,920 visitors, Russia is second only to China. The UK and Italy have contributed 119,189 and 102,412 guests, respectively. Germany brings 97,804 arrivals to complete the top five.
Maldives tourism numbers in August increased by 14% over the previous month. Nonetheless, there was a 3% decline in arrivals during the first week of September compared to the previous year. There are currently 3,900 tourists arriving in the Maldives on average per day.
The Maldivian government made a calculated decision to increase tourist arrivals by concentrating on drawing more travelers from India, which was the country’s top source of visitors in the previous year. With 83,000 tourists from India already this year, the Tourism Ministry is putting focused initiatives into place to move the country up to third place by the end of the year.
With these focused initiatives and continued marketing, the Maldives should be able to maintain its significant annual visitor growth trend and achieve its goals.
