With the arrival of the 2 millionth visitor, Maldives 2024 has achieved yet another significant milestone in the history of our tourism industry, according to the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives). Austrian national Astrid Dirnegger officially met the goal set by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for the year when she arrived in the Maldives on 26th December 2024. She visited Raffles Maldives Meradhoo with her family, marking her third trip to the Maldives.
After a record-breaking February 2024 in which over 217,394 tourists arrived, the most ever in a single day, this milestone highlights the Maldives’ tourism industry’s ongoing growth. With 10,214 arrivals on 10th February 2024, the Maldives also broke the record for the most arrivals in a single day in February 2024.
“Welcoming our 2 millionth tourist of 2024 is a source of pride for the nation, and a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire tourism industry. This milestone is a result of the collaborative efforts of our stakeholders and the industry as a whole. I extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who has contributed to this success.” CEO & MD of MMPRC, Mr. Ibrahim Shiuree, stated.
Due to MMPRC’s expansion into new markets including Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Bangladesh, the Maldives’ tourism sector has grown dramatically in 2024. In order to gain traction in new markets like sports, movies, medical tourism, and more, MMPRC also launched a number of projects. Additionally, Visit Maldives hosted the first-ever “DATA 2024” conference, the biggest in South East Asia, which featured a stellar lineup of global data professionals and business executives. This was followed by another milestone, the Visit Maldives Tourism Symposium 2024, which brought together key players in the Maldives tourism industry, including stakeholders, industry leaders, and policymakers, to discuss important issues like sustainability, diversification, health and safety, and creative solutions to the sector’s problems. In addition, the Visit Maldives Club was established in August 2024, which paved the way for the start of the eagerly awaited “Burunu Boma” sport fishing tournament for 2025.
With the fifth consecutive victory as the World’s Leading Destination and the first-ever designation as the World’s Leading Green Destination, the Maldives’ tourism industry was further honored on the international tourism scene.
