Environment Week (World Reef Day, World Environment Day, World Ocean Day, and Global Wellness Day) was celebrated at Canareef Resort Maldives proudly sponsored a range of environmental, sustainable, and educational programs from 1st June 2024 to 8th June 2024. The resort’s steadfast dedication to environmental practices and ocean protection was on display during this week-long event, which was appropriately dubbed Environment Week.
Canareef Resort Maldives established a tradition that emphasizes the resort’s commitment to environmental sustainability by including both guests and staff in projects meant to protect the pristine ecosystem of the Maldives via meaningful and engaging activities.
On 1st June, Canareef Resort Maldives celebrated World Reef Day at Bar-Kuda Beach by transplanting coral, marking the start of Environment Week. The goal of this project was to protect and rebuild the priceless coral reefs, which are vital ecosystems that are being threatened by both human activity and climate change. The highlighted coral, a branching Acropora Latistella, was introduced into the lagoon at a depth of around 3.5 meters, between Canareef Island and a neighboring deserted island. This site was picked because of its simple access for caretakers and a regulated environment with favorable water flow, both of which are essential for coral growth.
In observance of World Environment Day on 5th June, Canareef Resort Maldives’ staff and visitors joined together to plant trees across the resort, reaffirming their dedication to a sustainable future. Their commitment to preserving the environment is demonstrated by each sapling they plant. Throughout the resort, visitors could plant 100 fruit and vegetable trees as a way to support forestry efforts. Mango, coconut, and drumstick trees were a few of them. By planting these trees, the resort is improving sustainability, fostering wildlife habitats, and reducing the effects of climate change.
Canareef Resort Maldives organized a unique awareness session on 7th June in honor of World Ocean Day, in partnership with Ms. Shaziya Saeed, an environmental specialist from the Maldives. During this workshop, local Seenu Atoll School students, guests, and team members learned about the importance of ocean protection. In her captivating talk, Ms. Saeed addressed a variety of subjects, including the occurrence of milky seas, coral growth, the ocean’s role in the creation of oxygen, and methods for safeguarding our oceans. After the workshop, participants used what they had learned to clean up the coastline of these dangerous plastic pellets at Meera Beach through an enjoyable and meaningful nurdle search.
A number of events encouraging both physical and mental well-being were arranged by Canareef Resort Maldives in honor of 8th June, which is Global Wellness Day. Guests and staff at Dhoni Bar started the day with a restorative yoga and meditation class that emphasized breathwork and awareness to promote a sense of centering and regeneration. The resort also held a 2-kilometer run and walk, which began at Meera Bar and ended at Bar-Kuda Beach, in collaboration with Maldivian Aero. Participants were urged to remain active and make lifelong memories while enjoying the stunning Maldivian night sky at this event.
