Later this year, Maldivian plans to introduce exciting new direct flights to Germany and South Africa as part of the expansion of its international operations. This is a significant advancement in the airline’s plan to provide more direct flights to well-known foreign locations, which will support the Maldives’ travel sector.
The airline has added its first wide-body aircraft to its roster with the recently purchased Airbus A330-200, which can accommodate 264 passengers. By the end of 2025, the airline intends to add another wide-body aircraft to its fleet, which now serves routes to Beijing, Shanghai, and Chengdu, three important Chinese cities.
The Maldives’ decision to open direct flights to Germany and South Africa coincides with the government’s efforts to strengthen ties abroad in order to increase travel. Mohamed Ameen, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, emphasized that these new flights will give travelers, especially those from far-off places, more convenient travel options. “These routes will save valuable time for travellers coming from regions like Europe and Africa, making the Maldives even more accessible to global tourists,” said Minister Ameen.
In order to increase the airline’s ability to serve additional developing markets, the government has also committed to further enlarging the fleet. Another wide-body aircraft is scheduled to arrive in October.
