As part of Sun Siyam’s resort-wide Sun Siyam Cares activities, Siyam World Maldives is pleased to announce its partnership with CLEANMaldives under the PLEASE Project (Plastic Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia), further solidifying its dedication to sustainability. Supported by UNOPS, the World Bank, SACEP, CLEANMaldives, and the Climate Collective Foundation, this year-long pilot initiative intends to combat plastic waste while establishing a new benchmark for creative recycling solutions in the Maldives. By recycling plastic garbage on-site into long-lasting, environmentally friendly furniture, such as benches and loungers, the emphasis is also on lowering the usage of single-use plastics.
Siyam World is advancing a circular economy model that demonstrates the possibility for scalable sustainability solutions by utilizing cutting-edge recycling technology supplied by CLEANMaldives solution supplier Econscious. The project blends the technical know-how of Econscious with the operational excellence of Siyam World.
While CLEANMaldives provides state-of-the-art equipment and technical training to resort employees, the resort supplies the infrastructure, manages operations, and guarantees effective garbage collection.
This partnership shows how cooperation can lead to significant environmental change in the hospitality industry. Siyam World’s dedication to leaving a positive environmental legacy is demonstrated by the PLEASE Project, which supports continuing initiatives such as trash management, renewable energy projects, and coral conservation.
Ausy Waseem, Resort Manager at Siyam World, said the following in response to this initiative: “To truly address plastic waste, we wanted to be part of a solution that is impactful, comprehensive, and beneficial to everyone. This aligns with Mr. Siyam’s philosophy of pursuing meaningful actions rather than resorting to greenwashing or empty promises.”
One significant step in tackling the plastic trash issue is the year-long PLEASE Project. It acts as a model for other SIDS and tourism-related enterprises to embrace creative, expandable solutions that encourage sustainability and environmental responsibility, with hopes of even further advancements in the future.
