A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the Ministry of Tourism and The Maldives National University (MNU) to build a five-star resort and Hotel Training School on the island of L. Hulhimendhoo. This partnership is in line with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s goal of strengthening the Maldives’ position as a leader in hospitality education and providing students with more real-world, top-notch training opportunities.
Through internships in a posh resort setting, the Hotel Training School, which is slated to be established on the island of L. Hulhimendhoo, will give MNU students practical experience in hotel administration, operations, and customer service. The initiative seeks to create graduates who are ready to lead in the cutthroat hospitality sector by fusing classroom instruction with practical experience.
“This MoU is not only a commitment to improving education in hospitality but also to strengthening our tourism industry with a workforce trained to meet international standards,” stated a Ministry of Tourism official. “As the Maldives grows as a top travel destination, the need for skilled professionals in hospitality management is vital. This training school will help bridge that gap.”
MNU agreed, praising the collaboration as a “monumental step” that supports the country’s economic and educational objectives.
With the goal of expanding employment prospects for Maldivians in higher-level roles within the tourism industry, which is essential to the country’s economy, this program is a strategic investment in the Maldives’ human capital. By guaranteeing that Maldivian hospitality workers have the necessary practical knowledge and abilities to support the country’s tourism industry, the project will help promote sustainable growth.
