According to the Ministry of Tourism’s most recent statistics, August tourist arrivals to the island nation of the Maldives increased by 10% this year, reaching 1.35 million by the end of the month. Compared to the 1.23 million tourists registered during the same period last year, this growth indicates a significant increase.
1,359,208 was the number for August tourist arrivals overall, with more than 5,000 arriving every day on average. With 176,151 visitors, August was the most popular month, closely followed by February with 217,392 visitors.
China continues to be the most popular destination for travelers, with 198,704 visits so far this year. With 147,185 tourists, Russia is the second-largest contributor. The UK, Italy, and Germany complete the top five with 117,582, 101,189, and 96,183 visitors, respectively.
Travelers stay in the Maldives for an average of seven days, with it being a popular destination even today. By the end of the year, the administration hopes to have welcomed two million tourists. This is an ambitious goal and in the coming months, an extra 636,691 tourists will need to visit the Maldives in order to meet this target, with the hope of current booking numbers to achieve this target as well.
