Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives has announced the adoption of three sea turtles that live in the seas surrounding their island resort in observance of World Turtle Day (2024). The resort’s continued dedication to marine conservation will assist Rehendi, Raivilla, and Raalhu, the two Green Turtles, and one Hawksbill Turtle.
The larger environmental initiatives of Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts are reinforced by this project. The firm has created comprehensive biodiversity inventories for each of its island resorts through a data collection effort that makes use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping and temperature loggers in the Maldives Ocean. Fish species, reefs, mangroves, and other habitats are all included in these inventories; however, internationally endangered species such as sea turtles are given special attention.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has categorized six of the seven species of sea turtles in the world as endangered with extinction, underscoring the critical need to preserve these amazing animals. Acknowledging their obligation to protect these threatened species, Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives actively participates in assisting the Olive Ridley Project. The resort supports research projects that further our knowledge of sea turtles and their ecosystems, in addition to helping with the project’s essential task of rescuing and rehabilitating wounded turtles, through its adoption and contribution program.
At Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives, sustainability is a fundamental principle that is further demonstrated by their continuous coral propagation program. This initiative is an example of the resort’s dedication to preserving marine biodiversity, as is a 2.5-year research project that looks at undersea environmental variables. Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives is attempting to secure a healthy future for the Maldivian coral reefs by relocating corals and spreading awareness of their significance and Splendid Asia stands with them and their environmental principles.
