Jodhpur - a city within a fort. Amidst
the sand lies a fort, 120 kms high. The exquisitely
carved forts, palaces and temples are the main highlights
of the city.

| Mehrangarh Fort
|
|
This is the most formidable fort, in the fort-studded Rajasthan, sprawled across a 125 mt high hill. It is also known as the Majestic Fort.

| Umaid Bhawan Palace |
|
This palace, built of chhittar sandstone or pink sandstone, is also called the Chhittar palace. Built in the 20 th century, the palace has quite a few western touches as it was designed by the British Royal Institute of Architects. The construction of the palace took 16 years.

| Clock Tower and Sardar Market |
|
The main attraction of the city, is the Clock Tower and the colourful Sardar Market near it. Narrow lanes lead to quaint bazaars selling textiles, antiques, silverware and handicrafts.

|
Mandore lies 9 km north of Jodhpur. It is popular for it's gardens which house the royal cenotaphs or dewals of the Jodhpur rulers including maharaja Jaswant Singh, the finest and largest of all is that of maharaja Ajit Singh.

| Bal Samand Palace |

Located at a distance of 5 kms to the north of the Jodhpur city is the Bal Samand lake. Built in 1159, Bal Samand is an artificial lake; the source of city's water supply. Surrounded by lush gardens, the lake is the site of the red sandstone building of the Bal Samand Palace.

Sardar Samand Palace, formerly the maharaja of Jodhpur's summer palace, has now been converted into a hotel.

Near the fort complex lies this white marble cenotaph, built in 1899, in commemoration of maharaja Jaswant Singh II. Rare portraits of Jodhpur's rulers are, also displayed here.

Maharani Bagh is a delightful orchard retreat situated between Jodhpur, Udaipur and Mount Abu. The orchards, surrounded by the Aravali hills were laid out in the late 19 th century by the maharani of Jodhpur and have always been a favourite resort for the members of the Jodhpur royal family.
